Team faq (frequently asked questions)
You can also find a lot of answers by also looking through our important Documents page.
General
Q: Can I do another sport at the same time as cross country?
A: Oh goodness... um... it's "VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU NOT". Especially if you want to prevent an overuse injury. But our general scenario is say you have a cross country meet on the same day as a big competition for "said sport" (like another meet, game, match etc.) and you think you would pick that competition over the cross country meet, then don't do cross country. Joining this team is just like joining any other team, it's a commitment. And even though we'd love to have you, we would need to have 100% of your commitment to the team.
Q: Where is a good place to get running shoes?
A: Sadly Duhnam's and Dicks Sporting Goods can't really do runner's justice as far as finding good shoes. We either recommend hansons running shop, running fit, and my running gear. All stores specialize in running and they really know what they're doing. You also get a discount there for being a student runner. :)
Q: When do we practice/ how long do practices last? (During school)
A: During the season we practice every day after school. Practices usually go until about 5-5:30pm. We sometimes have a meet on Saturday mornings.
Q: What are the requirements to earn a varsity letter?
A: Refer to "Varsity Letter Requirements" located in Important Documents.

Summer
Q: Are there practices that we have to go to in the summer?
A: Yes, they start in August, for more details on that refer to "2014 Season Timeline" located in Important Documents.
Q: Are the captains practices mandatory?
A: Technically they are not mandatory, but unless you have a something conflicting with your schedule you should definitely be there.
Q: Should I be training over the summer? If so what should I be doing?
A: Yes. We cannot stress enough how important it is to be training before the season starts. Not only does it prevent injury, but it makes the season so much easier to transition into. If you don't know what type of training you should be doing right now refer to the "Summer Training Schedule" located in Important Documents.

A: This season (2014) camp starts August 14th and goes until August 17th.
Q: Where is camp?
A: Howell Nature Center. (About 45 minuets away from Seaholm)
Q: Is it overnight?
A: Yes, we stay in a Cabin. It's pretty awesome. :)
Q: How much does it cost?
A: It's not expensive. We'll talk about cost later on in the season though.
Q: Who goes to camp?
A: Everyone on the girls cross country team.
Q: Is it mandatory?
A: YES. Camp is mandatory, and in fact if you don't go you will sadly not be able to compete in the first 3 meets. And that's a huge bummer.

A: Talk to Jeff ASAP. (His email is on the homepage)
Q: Can parents go?
A: We usually have around 4 parent chaperons come with us. If you are interested contact Jeff.

Monday-Run-days
Q: What are Monday-Run-Days? Are they different than fun runs?
A: Monday-run-days are similar to fun runs but they are actually more exciting! The captains noticed that the only time we go to trails and parks to run is for races, and so very rarely do we get to appreciate the awesome local running trails. So that's why we decided to do Monday-Run-Days. Every Monday in the summer leading to captains practices we will meet at Seaholm and upperclassmen will drive everyone to these nature parks so go out for fun trail runs.
Q: When are they going to be?
A: Every Monday morning from 7am (when we meet) to about 10am (hopefully when we get back to Seaholm) during the summer.
Q: Where are they going to be?
A: We meet at Seaholm every time, but what park we go to will change each trip. None of them will be over 30min away.
Q: How is Monday-Run-Day set up?
A: Captains are in charge of Monday-Run-Day, same as Fun Runs. We have upperclassmen driving so parents don't have to be bothered with it. We all meet by the Seaholm pool doors at 7am sharp, leave by 7:10am, drive to a chosen park (it's different every time), and they will all be about 30min away at the most. Runners will group up based on the distance they want to go, and we'll give everyone about 1 hour to run. If people finish before that (which many will) then they can use that extra time to explore the park. After everyone will meet back by the cars and we'll serve a breakfast, most likely something like bagels, OJ, and bananas (so everyone should bring $3 to pitch in) and we can chill out and eat before all driving back to Seaholm.
Q: Are they mandatory?
A: Nope, but you should go if you can!
Q: WHY ARE THEY SO EARLY???
A: 1. Running in the morning is the coolest time of the day, and in the summer it makes a huge difference. 2. We don't want to take up everyone's day.
Q: What if I don't bring the $3 for the breakfast?
A: You don't get breakfast. :(
Q: Do we have to tell you ahead of time if you are coming?
A: Yes! But the captains send out a notification text (through the Remind Me texting system) the day before (Sunday) and you have to reply that you are coming by the end of the day (Sunday Night). This is so we have enough food, and car space for everyone.
Q: What if I can barely run 2 miles? How am I expected to be there if there is an hour for running??
A: Not only will you have someone to run with, but after you finish you can explore these beautiful parks and really get to know some of your future teammates if your explore with them. It's definitely worth it. And knowing some of the crazy girls on the team you won't get bored. ;)
Q: Will the Boy Cross Country team be doing Monday-Run-Day?
A: We do not know, we'll be talking to them about it and hopefully they'll join us but for now it's just the girls team!

Fun runs
Q: What are "fun runs"?
A: Fun runs are when the girls cross country team meets in the morning (9:30am) to go running in the summer before the season starts. It's run by the captains and a they are a really great way to meet everyone on the team.
Q:When do they start?
A: The first Tuesday after the fourth of July.
Q: How far do you usually run at fun runs?
A: The distance ranges, some people only want to go for 2 or 3 miles, others may want to go farther. But the point to fun runs is everyone groups up depending on how far you want to go so you never have to run alone, but you're running as far as you want to.
Q: Where do we meet?
A: At Seaholm High School by the pool doors in the back. (The big student parking lot.)
Q: How often do we meet?
A: We meet 3 days a week, Tuesday-Thursday.
Q: Are they mandatory?
A: No, but we highly recommend attending them, that way you can meet a lot of people on the team, and it's the best (and most fun) way to get into shape before the season!
